Kumanoa amazonensis Necchi & M.L. Vis
"Plants cartilaginous and rigid; branching irregular and sparse; apices straight, apical cells embedded within the fascicles; 0.8-3.0 cm high, 100-150 µm in diameter. Whorls reduced, dense and compressed, usually indistinct but sometimes distinct and separated from each other. Internode 50-100 µm long. Pericentral cells spherical or barrel-shaped with 1-2 primary fascicles; rhizoidal filaments well developed, forming 2-3 layers of short-cylindrical or barrel-shaped cells. Primary fascicles audouinelloid, curved, 3-6(-7) cell-storeys, tapering towards the apex; proximal cells cylindrical, L/D 1.5-2.5; distal cells cylindrical or barrel-shaped with terminal cells round-conical or sub-spherical, L/D 1.0-2.0; branching unilateral, lacking or 1-2 per fascicle. Secondary fascicles absent.
Monoecious. Spermatangia obovoid or sub-spherical, terminal on primary fascicles, 4.5-6.5 µm in diameter. Carpogonial branches helically twisted, arising on pericentral or proximal fascicle cells, composed of 4-6 disc- or barrel-shaped cells; involucral filaments short, 1-2 cell-storeys; carpogonia 20-30 µm long; trichogynes club-shaped, unstalked, 7.0-9.0 in diameter. Carposporophytes1 per whorl, dense, semi-spherical, higher than the whorl radius, 140-220 µm in diameter, 80-130 µm high; gonimoblast filaments 3-7 cell-storeys; cells cylindrical or barrel-shaped; carposporangia obovoid or sub-spherical, 11.0-14.0 µm long, 7.5-10.0 µm in diameter."
