Kumanoa louisianae (Skuja) Entwisle, M.L. Vis, W.B. Chiasson, Necchi & A.R. Sherwood
"Plants moderately mucilaginous, delicate; branching pseudodichotomous and abundant; apices straight, apical cells embedded within the fascicles; 2.0-5.0 cm high, 250-410 µm in diameter. Whorls reduced, barrel-shaped, distinct, becoming indistinct and confluent in older parts. Internode 200-500 µm long. Pericentral cells ovoid with 2-3 primary fascicles; rhizoidal filaments well developed, forming 1-2 layers of cylindrical cells. Primary fascicles straight, 4-7(-9) cell-storeys, proximal cells elongate-elliptical or elongate-cylindrical L/D 5-10; distal cells elliptical, L/D 3-6; branching di- or trichotomous. Secondary fascicles few or abundant, covering less than half of internode length and shorter than primary fascicles.
Monoecious. Spermatangia spherical or sub-spherical, terminal or sub-terminal on primary or secondary fascicles, 5.0-7.0 µm in diameter. Carpogonial branches curved, arising from pericentral cells, composed of 3-6 disc- or barrel-shaped cells; involucral filaments short, 1-3 cell-storeys; carpogonia 25.0-35.0 µm long; trichogynes club-shaped, stalked, 6.0-11.5 µm in diameter. Carposporophytes 1 per whorl, dense, semi-spherical, lower than the whorl radius or rarely reaching the whorl radius, 150-250 µm in diameter, 80-175 µm high; gonimoblast filaments 3-5(-6) cell-storeys; cells cylindrical or elliptical; carposporangia obovoid or sub-spherical, 12.0-15.0 µm long, 7.0-11.0 µm in diameter."
